3.1. IPN Intel Sat Net (IISNet) Arch

Below is a brief summary of the IPN Intelligent Satellite Network (IISN) Architecture proposed projects, administered under the Academic Relations initiative of the IPN. ISOC members, Campus Party, space agency, and industry partners can be included in these research projects, within the IPN Academic Relations Research processes. policies, and standards.

 

PROPOSED PROJECTS FOR ACADEMIC RESEARCH

Currently, the following studies are proposed, in collaboration with academic institutions and partners:

  1. IPN Intelligent Satellite Network Architecture for Earth
  2. IPN Intelligent Satellite Network Architecture for the Moon
  3. IPN Intelligent Satellite Network Architecture for Mars
  4. IPN Intelligent Satellite Network Architecture for Europa

 

TERRESTRIAL IISN ARCHITECTURE – EARTH

  • Internet Engineering considerations are part of the required research.
  • Astronautical Engineering considerations are part of the required research. GEO orbiting altitude = 22,282 miles above the equator. From Earth, a geostationary satellite looks like it is standing still since it is always above the same location. One satellite in Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) can cover approximately 1/3 of the Earth’s surface area. Three satellites can cover almost all of Earth’s surface area
  • Cognitive Sciences considerations, such as Artificial Intelligence requirements for these satellites are part of the required research.

 

EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL IISN ARCHITECTURE – MOON, MARS, EUROPA

  • Internet Engineering Considerations:  Define the architecture for extra-terrestrial planet-like objects. Much of the design should be similar to the terrestrial architecture.
  • Astronautical Engineering Considerations:  Define the architecture for extra-terrestrial planet-like objects. The design should be similar to the terrestrial architecture, although the challenges of establishing an IISNET around extra-terrestrial planet-like bodies is much more complicated.
  • Cognitive Sciences Considerations:  The artificial intelligence design considerations should be very similar to those of the Earth IISNET architecture.
